This summer I attended the OACAC's Annual Conference in Tampa at the University of South Florida. It was a great opportunity to catch up with fellow college counselors from international schools in several different countries - to trade stories, discuss trends and gain new insight in a field that changes every year.
Workshops on topics germane to international students were covered, including financial aid and building competitive profiles. These were led by representatives from some of the best colleges and universities in the US, deans of admission, and admissions. We also toured the Universities of South Florida and Tampa and got a sense of the types of students who would fit in those schools and the myriad of opportunities they house. The conference culminated with a great college fair, where I had the opportunity to connect directly with admissions reps from many fantastic universities all over the world. Building and nurturing those relationships is central to the advising and eventual success of our students in this process. Universities openly shared their own tips and advice for empowering students for success in the application process. I left feeling excited to bring this knowledge back to our students here at AISK.
