Welcome to Elementary School

Welcome to the new school year at AISK!

“You're off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So... get on your way!”
― Dr. SeussOh, The Places You'll Go!

The Elementary School staff are excited to be underway now, getting to know the students and diving into learning together.  Our teachers and teaching assistants are a dedicated group of professionals who collaborate to ensure that each child's needs and talents are identified and supported.  We support the students to live our AISK Core Values of Excellence, Integrity, Respect, and Empowerment, each day and in all that we do. Our learning environment is safe, attractive, respectful and engaging.

We are in the process of creating an extraordinary learning community.  A community that provides students with excellent learning opportunities and educational experiences. Through our program, we will promote student empowerment in their learning through encouraging them to face challenges, to embark on thoughtful inquiries, and seek out collaboration through the joy of discovery and exploration.  We want to ensure that together we build upon this strong foundation and help develop the understandings and skills for student learning now and in the future.

The Elementary School will maintain a focus on creating a respectful, stimulating and safe environment.  A place where the established values, rules, expectations, procedures and policies will be maintained. Also a place where students will be happy and will continue to thrive.  We want students to be responsible, to demonstrate respect and to make the right choices. We want them to act with integrity and to make positive contributions to world around them.

This year we will continue our focus on developing the STEM program where students apply their skills and understandings in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics to think critically and collaborate to solve authentic and meaningful problems. We will also continue social-emotional learning, using the Second Step programme to support students in developing the skills of conflict resolution, building self-esteem, managing their behavior and developing resilience.

While new initiatives begin, we will continue our traditions and the educational practices that are part of the AISK way.  We will continue to partner closely with parents to ensure that each child is empowered to be the best they can be and providing more opportunities for parents to be involved in the school.  I welcome you to another good year at AISK, 2019-2020.

With best wishes,
