WELCOME TO HIGH SCHOOL

Since inception, AISK has embraced a student-centered philosophy for content delivery, while ensuring relevance to the world within which our students live, work, and play. Our High School students are provided with an abundance of choice in their subjects allowing each student to personalize their learning experience. Students create a program of learning that engages them and empowers them to succeed. Our internationally-minded teachers help students make connections between themselves and the broader world by creating future-ready learning experiences. Respect for self, others, and community is instilled in lessons and across the campus.

All courses in Grades 6-10 are linked to AERO (American Education Reaches Out), NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards) and other subject-specific standards to provide teachers with a framework for planning and implementation of lessons. Students in Grade 9 & 10, study a balanced selection of courses that include Math, English, Additional Language, the Arts, Physical Education, Science, and Strategies of Success. AISK’s Strategies of Success courses helps students build communication skills, technology skills, study skills, and is interdisciplinary in nature.  Social-Emotional Wellness is a key component to our Strategies of Success courses and aims to help students become more self-aware, more internationally-minded, and to choose to act with integrity in their school, home and community life.

In Grade 11 and 12, students study the IB Diploma Program which is academically challenging with externally assessed examinations that prepare students for university and life beyond.   AISK has been an IB world school since 2008, and this program is taught over two years and provides a balance of six subjects, and the core which includes the nature of knowledge across disciplines through the unique theory of knowledge course. A 4000 word Extended Essay is researched and written over 6-8 months in a subject area that most interests the IB learner. CAS (Community, Action & Service) is the final required core component of the IB program. IB emphasizes the development of the whole student – physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. A successful IB student has passion for academics, citizenship, and healthy lifestyle choices. AISK offers three pathways for students to achieve academic success.

In Grade 10 students and their families are counselled in a variety of planning sessions and then make their choices for Grade 11 and 12. Most of our students aim to complete the full IB Diploma and accept this challenge with enthusiasm. All of our students achieve an American accredited high school diploma and some may take IB courses in addition to the high school diploma. Please explore our website and discover more about AISK. You will become acquainted with the myriad of ways we seek to nurture and inspire the young people in our care.   We welcome inquiries from students, parents, and educators. We are passionate about what we do and we would love to share this with you with the hope that you will join our community of learners.  If you have any questions or would like to meet up to discuss learning at AISK, please just email me and let’s get to know each other.
