Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19)

We remain in contact with the Jamaican Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Ministry of Education. The Ministry of Education has ordered all schools closed for 14 days with a review in 10 days as of Thursday, March 12, 2020. This supersedes AISK Risk Matrix.

OUR CURRENT RESPONSE LEVEL

With 8 confirmed cases in Kingston, and none in the AISK community our current risk assessment is Level 4 – High risk.

Level 4 of our Emergency Response Plan: HIGH RISK

  • 8 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Kingston and none within our community 
  • An announcement of school closure by the Ministry of Education
  • The Ministry of Health and Wellness recommends self-quarantine for international travellers coming from affected areas
  • Emphasis on hygiene and hand washing
  • Social Distance Protocol of 6'

At our current risk assessment Level 4 – High Riskif any of the below-listed criteria are true of you or anyone within your home:

  • Arriving in Jamaica from an affected area after February 24th
  • Have travelled to affected areas within the last 14 days and have flu-like symptoms
  • Been in close contact (a distance of less than one meter for more than 15 minutes), within the last 14 days, with someone with a confirmed COVID-19 infection

PLANNING A VISIT TO AISK - DON’T HAVE AISK ID?

Level 1 - Low risk

The Ministry of Health recommends self-quarantine for some travellers. AISK requires students and parents to stay off-campus if flu symptoms occur.

Level 2 - Moderate Risk

Due to the ongoing and rapidly changing situation with the novel coronavirus (COVID-19), we are requiring all visitors to the American International School of Kingston to complete the coronavirus self-declaration form. AISK reserves the right to deny entry to campus if the answer is “Yes” to any of the questions.

Although the Government of Jamaica has imposed travel restrictions on 8 countries we acknowledge that the WHO has listed 110 countries that are currently experiencing Covid-19 cases. Given AISK's demographic and frequency of international travel by members of our community we are requesting that if you have travelled within the past 2 weeks please self-quarantine.

TRAVEL SAFE NOTIFICATION

Families and employees who have travelled to any COVID-19 affected areas within the past 14 days should contact the local authorities, regardless of whether or not they have flu-like symptoms (fever, chills, sore throat, cough, sore muscles, difficulties breathing) and inform us at office@aisk.com

 

When Travelling

WHEN TRAVELLING

Before your trip, contact the embassy or consulate of the country you are travelling to in order to find out about any special measures that may be in place.

  • Regularly wash your hands with water and soap. Please use hand sanitizers where appropriate.
  • Observe etiquette, covering your mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing.
  • Avoid close contact with those who may have the flu or flu-like symptoms.
  • Clean surfaces such as airline tables & trays, seat belt buckles, etc with sanitizer.
  • Follow hygiene advice from reputable authorities such as the WHO.
