Welcome to the Elementary School

Anna_Wallace_November.JPGThe elementary school at AISK is our  largest school division, boasting an average enrollment of approximately 100 students. In the elementary we work hard to honor our schools history while dedicating our efforts to providing our students with an exemplary education that will serve them well as global citizens of the twenty-first century.

Our elementary classrooms are always buzzing with learning and activities.  Students are engaged in a dynamic American international curriculum which is primarily implemented through project based activities.  Our curriculum areas are taught by an eclectic group of teachers who facilitate the students learning in a variety of creative ways.

In our Language Arts  program, Writers & Reading Workshops are used in the upper elementary grades while Guided Reading is utilized in Lower Elementary classrooms. These programs are supplemented by other resources as teachers see fit and permit our students to work at independent levels.

The grade five math curriculum is guided by the standards in the McGraw Hill/Macmillian series “Math in my World.” Students progress through the concepts while engaging in consistent hands-on and real-life math applications.

In Social Studies we cover standards and benchmarks by taking into consideration the history, geography and culture of our host nation, the home nations of our student body and that of the United States of America. Students go on fieldtrips to visit Taino museums, Gypsum quarries and The National Heroes Park to name a few.

Science delves into hands-on learning with vegetable gardens, composts and recycling activities directly engaging students in their learning.  Field trips take us to water treatment plants, weather stations, the airport, plant nurseries and botanical gardens.

In our special area subjects i.e- Music, Spanish, Art and Physical Education- Resource teachers work closely with classroom teachers to support core curriculum learning.

In our After School Activities our students enjoy a myriad of programs to provide enrichment and create the balance between academics and activities.  On site and off site Learn to Swim classes, various dance courses, soccer, water polo, gymnastics, to name a few are some of the programs offered. The roster of programs is constantly updated to meet the interests of the students.

Being a member of the AISK community is certainly a special experience. Please feel free to call or email me at anytime. Or just stop by; my door is always open.

Sincerely,
Anna Wallace
