Governance

AISK is governed by a Board of Directors, consisting of 9 persons.  Of these, a majority must be parents or guardians of children attending the school.  Six directors are elected by the parent body, one director is appointed by the U.S. Ambassador, and two directors are appointed by the Board.  The Board meets monthly.

The Board of Directors is generally guided by the mission, philosophy and core values of the school.  As well, the Board is guided by two key documents - the Articles of Incorporation and the Board Policies.  The Board is directly responsible to the school community for ensuring AISK's successful operation, and for management and development of capital assets. The Board is responsible for hiring and evaluating the Head of School.  The Board's other responsibilities include ensuring the long term financial security and strategic direction of the school.

The Head of School is the chief executive officer of the school, and is responsible for implementation of Board policy and decisions.  More generally, the Head is in charge of the organization, operation, and administration of the total School program. He/she is responsible for the safety, welfare, and general development of the children within the School, and serves as the normal channel of communication between the Board and the school's stakeholders.  The Head of School's primary responsibility is in the field of educational leadership and management, where the Head is charged with inspiring and encouraging teachers to optimize the academic, physical, social, and emotional growth of AISK's students.
