Colleges use standardized test scores to augment the information they receive from transcripts and recommendation letters, to learn more about each applicant’s overall level of achievement, and in some cases to expand their knowledge of a specific subject area. Students are responsible for knowing which tests are required by each of their colleges and should work with their counselor during junior year to plan an individual testing timetable. Click here for information on the appropriate time to take SAT subject tests, which may be earlier than the junior or senior year for some students.
